The chapter count by act
Chapter names below reveal the opening chapter of each act. Skip this table if you want to avoid those titles.

The numbered total is 4 + 5 + 6 + 6 + 5 = 26. The Prologue and Epilogue sit outside that count.
Why some lists say 28
A list that includes the Prologue and Epilogue contains 28 sections. A list that counts only numbered chapters contains 26. Neither number means there are 28 acts.
Use the five-act structure for a broad progress check. Chapters do not all take the same amount of time, so completing half the chapter list does not prove you are halfway through your playtime. For planning a session, use the campaign length guide.
